Lexical mutations and modifications in the English language have significant implications for the standardisation of written communication. In the digital era, platforms such as social networking and instant messaging have reshaped language use, encouraging non-standard writing practices including slang, acronyms, and informal styles. The rapid emergence of new expressions, the blending of oral and written forms, and the coexistence of formal and informal registers challenge the long-term stability of standardised written English. Using a qualitative approach, this paper examines linguistic adjustments through the analysis of digital communication modes such as chat logs and social media messages. Findings show that users frequently shift between informal and formal registers depending on context, highlighting the adaptability of language in contemporary communication. While these changes challenge established conventions, they also reflect the natural evolution of language in response to technological advancement. The study contributes to existing literature by examining the societal implications of digital language change and offers insights for educators, linguists, and policymakers to support responsive language planning and curriculum development while maintaining effective communication.
